The initial rash is erythematous, with multiple maculopapular lesions that subsequently become vesicular (Figure 1). New crops of vesicles may continue to appear for up to seven days. After a few days, the vesicular fluid becomes cloudy (i.e., pustulation). Finally, the lesion forms a crust that falls off after two to three weeks. The rash may leave scarring and changes in pigmentation.
